Greg Power,
Trumpet/Flugelhorn
Rick Moore, Piano
Robert Mortensen,
Bass
Bobby Menaquale, Drums
Since beginning his
professional performance career at age 15, Greg Power has been requested
to perform with some of America’s most famous musical ensembles, including
Warren Covington & the Pied Pipers, Sammy Kaye, Guy Lombardo’s Royal
Canadians, Myron Floren, Les Elgart, Bob Crosby, Jim Nabors, Dorothy
Lamour, The Spinners, The Four Tops, and Bobby Rydell. In addition to a
20-year career as trumpet soloist with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, he also
had the opportunity to lead the orchestra and conduct for Helen O’Connell.
Greg’s musical career has given him the chance to travel through most of
the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe, and has included
playing in the pit orchestra for the National Broadway tour of "On Your
Toes" and entertaining passengers through multiple trips on the
Mississippi Queen river boat.
Pianist Rick Moore was
born in Plainfield, New Jersey, has been playing piano for more than
thirty years, and is on the area’s "first call list" for pianists,
performing over 150 engagements per year. In the early seventies, his
musical interests turned toward improvised music and he joined the New
Jersey Jazz Society, began attending jam sessions, and quickly became
friends with jazz greats Claude Hopkins, Doc Cheatham, and Herb Hall.
After relocating to Florida in 1986, Rick quickly found that he had more
performance offers than he could handle, routinely having to turn down 2-3
performance opportunities per week. In 2004, his first CD, "Boulevard
Saint Germaine," a collection of solo, duo, and trio performances, was
released on his own record label, RM MUSIC.
Bassist Robert Mortensen
has pursued a professional musical career for his entire adult life.
Beginning in Northern Indiana, after studies at Indiana University,
Robert’s music has taken him to New York City, the Virgin Islands, Hawaii,
California and, finally, South Florida. He currently works primarily in
the Palm Beach area, but plays many engagements anywhere from Miami to
Orlando. He prefers the jazz venue, but realizes that versatility is the
key to many musicians’ success. Robert presently resides in Stuart,
Florida.
Fortunately for PowerPlay,
"what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" did not hold true for drummer Bobby
Menaquale. Bobby began his professional musical career as a "first call"
drummer in Las Vegas, relocating after ten years to Atlantic City when the
casinos first opened there. His tenure in Atlantic City lasted for five
years, followed by four years with Keely Smith and then another relocation
to South Florida. When he’s not performing with PowerPlay, Bobby stays
busy performing in the Palm Beach area.
Locally, PowerPlay has
shared the wonderful American musical art form known as jazz with
audiences at the Holiday Inn Oceanside, the Admiral’s Table restaurant,
the Metro Blues Café, the Center For The Arts, and the Lyric Theater.
PowerPlay’s May 3rd
Riverwalk Jazz Series performance will bring a new and unique element to
the successful series. PowerPlay will transform its third set from a
concert setting to an open jam session. Local jazz musicians are invited
to sit in with PowerPlay, but, because participation will need to be
limited, interested musicians must register with Greg Power prior to the
performance date. Greg can be contacted at (772) 334-2715 or by e-mail at
